Treasurer (Volunteer Position)

The DuPage Art League is seeking a Treasurer. The Treasurer plays an important role in overseeing, managing and reporting on all aspects of the finances of the organization. The ideal candidate will have accounting and finance experience and a working knowledge of QuickBooks and Excel. An understanding of nonprofit accounting is helpful, but not necessary. This person must hold honesty and integrity in high esteem and be committed to accuracy, transparency and timeliness.
Responsibilities:
General
· Recommend financial policies that protect the organization including how expenses get reimbursed, who can access funds, who has check signing authority, handling of small cash expenses, etc.
· Supervises bookkeeper (who prepares checks, enters deposits)
· Monitors credit card transactions and processes credit card refunds
· Submit the books for certified financial review or audit when necessary
· Responsible for Property/General Liability, Umbrella, Bond and Directors and Officers Insurance
· Responsible for renewing Sales Tax Exemption and Property Tax Exemption.
· Prepares and presents monthly financial reports to the Board.
· Presents a final report at the annual meeting covering year-end results.
Banking
· Maintains banking relationships; updating signatories as required
· On a monthly basis, reconciles bank accounts including credit card transactions
· Prepares and executes ACH (direct deposit) transactions
Accounting
· Downloads and sorts sales information from POS system to reconcile to settled credit card transactions
· Prepares journal entries as needed
· Maintains fixed asset and depreciation schedule (Excel spreadsheet)
· Supervises bookkeeper who: Records all income and expenses in QuickBooks, Prepares checks, and Prepares gallery sale letters to artists
Taxes
· Prepares Form 1099s
· Prepares and files federal Form 990 and Illinois Form AG990-IL
· Prepares and files annual report to the Illinois Attorney General
Qualifications:
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Basic to intermediate level working knowledge of Microsoft tools such as Excel, Word and Powerpoint
· Attention to detail and accuracy
· Business acumen and ability to identify and communicate inherent operating risks
